Stella on F1 car design convergence and Red Bull sidepods

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella said Formula 1 is still “far” from a point where car designs converge, with teams set to study Red Bull’s distinctive sidepod concept introduced at the Miami Grand Prix. Stella said: "For those who are technically interested, we are in a very, very interesting phase. It is very interesting because if you see the sidepod concept that Red Bull introduced, it is quite different to the sidepod concept that, for instance, Mercedes and Ferrari have adopted, and the McLaren style is further different. I think there will be a stabilisation at some stage, a convergence, but we look like we are quite far from this convergence. So I think there will be a process of looking at each other."

The FIA has confirmed tweaks to F1’s ADUO (Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities) rules after the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix, which has provisionally cut the 2026 calendar to 22 rounds.
