Mekies on Red Bull's openness to a future V8 return

Red Bull boss Laurent Mekies says the team is “pretty cool” with the possibility of Formula 1 returning to V8 engines in the future, after FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem said V8s would be coming back. Mekies said: "As Red Bull Powertrains, we are pretty cool with it. We feel we had to start from zero to go and try to deal with this power unit. And I think the starting point is decent. So we are quite excited to have another challenge. We are probably a bit more flexible and independent. We don't have some background history, but we are quite excited about going about a new challenge."

The FIA has confirmed tweaks to F1’s ADUO (Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities) rules after the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix, which has provisionally cut the 2026 calendar to 22 rounds.
