FIA approves 2026 engine rule changes
The Race reports the FIA has now approved Formula 1 engine rule changes designed to help Honda recover from its early-2026 struggles, after a planned vote was delayed around the Miami Grand Prix for further review. The World Motor Sport Council has signed off tweaks to the ADUO catch-up mechanism, increasing the maximum extra cost-cap allowance to $11m for manufacturers 10% or more off the benchmark (up from $8m for those more than 8% off), plus a one-off additional $8m development budget for 2026 only. Extra power unit test-bench running has also been increased, with the allowance rising to 230 additional hours for anyone more than 10% off (previously 190 hours at 8%). The FIA has also brought forward the first 2026 assessment window for upgrade allowances to after the Canadian Grand Prix (May 24) due to race cancellations.
